For you folks that have less than 40 GB on your work station, this system is ideal since your data can be written to one tape. I have written to this tape drive with x-Talk [a diagnostic program], Novabackup and Ghost. You may use Windows Backup or consider using NovaBackup because Novabackup will write a backup on multiple tapes if you have more data than will fit on a single tape. The realistic capacity of a DLT IV when dumping a workstation on this drive is 38-45 GB. Ghost dumped a 13 gig Windows XP workstation in about 47 minutes. See more comments about backing up below. Items included in this auction: 1 ea. External DLT 7000 SCSI Drive. 1 ea. Adaptec 2940UW SCSI controller card. 1 ea. SCSI connector cable. 1 ea. SCSI Active Terminator. 1 ea. Used 35/70GB DLT Media cartridge. This is the tape written and read by X-Talk [See below}. 1 ea. Power Cord I have installed the latest firmware [V109] update to the tape drive. The case has only one small scratch on its top. Looks like it just came from the factory. This drive is offered with a 3 day warranty so you may buy with confidence that it will arrive non-DOA since the diagnostics were run consecutive 3 times without error. Buyer pays all transportation expenses. Before shipping I will run X-Talk again to make sure that the tape drive is working correctly. Backing Up There is no more important function to protect your self from hard disk crashes than having timely backups. Here are a few tips about this important process. 1. Run backup at least weekly. 2. Use a series of tapes numbering at least 5. That way you can keep a least a month’s of data available for restoring. Cycle the tapes in a series so that you overwrite the oldest. It is important to keep a number of tapes since you might delete a file and not know it until days or weeks later. 3. Keep at least one of these tapes off site so if your computer is stolen or a fire consumes it, you can rebuild. 4. NovaBackup offers the ability to have both incremental and differential backups. Depending on how much data you have on your drive, it will take a significant amount of time to create the tape backup. Read their documentation and choose the option that fits your need best. If all of your data will fit on one tape, I would recommend Ghost since it is less expensive than NovaBackup and will safely backup your system data. Do not get the current version of Ghost since I cannot find any reference to tapes in its user guide. I use the 2003 version. I know that it works without problems. Good Luck in your bidding.
